One of the God’s names is Yahweh Shammah—The

Lord is There. He is there, always and everywhere at once.

How can God be here and there?

Habits come from practice and perseverance

I went to observe a class at Greenville Literacy Association and one of the ladies there showed me her work.

When I pointed out a mistake she said, “I always do that. I write how I speak.”  I encouraged her by saying that’s normal and that it takes practice to get better. That the more she does it, the more natural it’ll feel. And that it’ll become second nature when she does it enough.

On my way home, I realized my relationship with God is similar to that. When I first set a specific time to read my Bible, it’s often awkward, or I forget.  I have to discipline myself to think about and follow through on it. But the longer I do it, the more comfortable it’ll get until it becomes natural.

I’m not there yet.  It’ll take time, but with practice and perseverance, it’ll get better and easier.  Maybe someday it’ll be so natural I won’t even think about it when I go about my days.

How 'bout you? How do you form a habit that sticks?  Let’s talk about it and learn from each other.

Staying on Track

Ever think you’ve got everything on track and are doing just what God wants you to do and then you’re thrown a curve ball?  It can be confusing. We’re trying to do what He’s told us to, then things go south. Or to the right, or left. Whichever way they go, we’re off track.

But we haven’t done anything wrong. Maybe we haven’t even done anything different than we were before.  So what’s going on?  Maybe we’ve kept on the straight and narrow, but the path has turned.
If the path is God’s will for us, it’s changed. Sometimes a little, sometimes a lot.  That’s one reason we need to be in communication (prayer) with God—to hear what He wants us to do.

Easier said than done.  It’s simple, but not easy.  Back to my One Word for this year: Discipline.

What do you have to discipline yourself to do these days? How do you go about it? Don’t forget to join the conversation.

The Great I AM

Anxious by Phoney Nickle
Anxious
from Phoney Nickle

I was regretting the past
and fearing the future.
Suddenly, my Lord was speaking.
"My Name is I AM"

He paused. I waited.  He continued:

When you live in the past,
With it mistakes and regrets,
It is hard.
My name is not I WAS.

When you live in the future,
With its problems and fears,
It is hard.
My name is not I WILL BE.

When you live in this moment,
It is not too hard.
I am here.
My name is I AM

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything, by prayer and supplication, let your requests be made known to God.  And the peace that passes all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:6-7)
